I know this women that has two children, ages 3 and 2. They are always dirty and stink. The oldest is showing signs of autism and the mother won't take the child to the doctor for testing. In fact neither child has ever even been to the doctor. The women is trying to get pregnant again and she doesn't seem to be taking care of the children she has. I know they are spanked hard when they do something bad, they are always yelled at. They are left in dark rooms alone for hours, and made to sit still in highchairs. The oldest doesn't talk, doesn't play with other children, and when is asked to bring a toy or something the child looks at you like she doesn't understand what is being said.. I know things in this home are bad, but is it bad enough to turn them in? Is turning them in right, or should I just wait longer and see if things change? I think this women maybe be out of control. She hit her mother when she was a teen, and was put in the hospital for drugs and cutting herself.
DO NOT CLICK IN THE YELLOW BOX?
Why Not?
He doesn't show any signs of autism; it's just that he can't articulate. He just looks you right in the eye and says something to you in a somewhat slurred voice, and only my sister (his mother) can figure out what he is saying (not one other person can). She won't put him into a speech therapy program, unfortunately. Are there speech exercises that she can practice with him? Or anything else that can be done? Or a way to convince her that he needs speech therapy? If I didn't live two hours away and weren't in school, I would take him to speech therapy myself.
I attribute it to the fact that he has never been in daycare, or around other children. I am afraid that when he starts school, other children will not know what he is saying and that he will not make friends because of it.
Any and all help is much appreciated. I really love him and I want the best for him.

I ask because I see tons of people on this site who claim to have this disease and then describe it in terms of behaviors that seem little different from introversion, rock-bottom self-esteem, depression, anxiety, love shyness, mild social awkwardness etc. without any clear-cut signs of autism such as repetitive behaviors or sensory sensitivity.
As a newcomer to America I wonder if Asperger's Syndrome, or the behaviors we label as such, could even exist outside the United States and Great Britain. I hear lots of Scandenavian, German, and Japanase peoples like to work behind closed doors, dislike surprises and loud noises...Asperger seems SO similar to what psychologists call "introverts."
