I have a 2 1/2 yr old child who has signs of autism.. Now I'm not 100% sure but we are taking him for testing here very shortly in fact I had his audio done today which he passed with better than normal results.. But I've read other signs as well in articles and was wondering if any doctors could maybe help me diagnose the problem..
1. He's Learned words his 1st yr as a child but after his mother deployed to Iraq he seemed to stop learning new things
2. He makes some eye contact but it's more selective hearing than trying to have a conversation with someone..
3. He's very smart with enggineering things, takes stuff apart figures it out and puts it back together..
4. Very problem solving,
5. Does not speak very much, maybe knows 20 words total, with maybe 4 or 5 (2word) sentances...
6. Kinda a little off balanced still, runs with a stagger and pretty clumsy..
7. He does tell me what he wants in his own ways and I can understand him but it's all alot of jibberish still..
8. He plays well with other kids.. But likes to be by himself as well..
9. Very slowly but surely learning potty training..
10. Takes a real interest in Cartoons like spongebob and can watch for hours if I let him.. Don't know if that means anything but can copy things off learning shows too..
I hope you can help me with some of these issues or at least help me to know some diagnoses before I take him into a doctor jus for some piece of mind.. Thank you..
Serious responses only..

Why Not?
Okay, I have a 15 month old little boy and I have had his hearing checked by an audiologist but he still seems to "zone out" at times. He shows no signs of autism or learning disorders (I am a teacher with a degree in education including special ed, so I have been pruned to look for signs of disorders). The thing is that he is also not forming words. We started him in daycare a few weeks ago and he seems to be vocalizing more, but he still only says dada (and momma when he's really upset). It is worrying me that he is not forming words. I know boys generally develop later, but there is a little boy who is two weeks older than him who says 50 words. I feel bad that my son is not talking like the other little boy. We have read books since he was a couple hours old
In fact, books are his favorite things in the world. We talk to him and say what we are doing and try to get him to talk and listen but he just does not seem interested. Any suggestions or personal stories are more than appreciated. Thank you.
whenever my son moves around and sticks something out that i can touch, i try to feel it so i can guess what it may be but he pulls away. i am gentle i just stroke and touch softly. i guess in my ignorance i am hoping that this isnt a sign of autism. im so emotionally sensitive sometimes i feel like im bothering him by stroking my belly or singing cuz i get kicks that are signs of disapproval to me.
