Ive made an appt w/the dr at the end of this month and have posted questions before. But ,im sure like any mother,I get worried .So heres another one...does stimming always mean autism, like does it go hand in hand always with some kind of problem?or can any kids do it? my child does ahve a little bit of a problem speaking and pronouncing words, but he does try.other than that he shows no nother symptoms at all from what i read off all the autism awareness sites.but his stimming is like a daily thing.he draws in the air with his finger and doesnt like to be stopped....he does this alot...but he does also play normal on the other hand, and loves interaction with other children....i also noticed he doesnt reall y do it when were gone somewhere and not bored, also he doesnt do it at all according to our daycare (he only goes maybe 2 times a week)she said he shows no signs at all,but he gets on such a role doing it at home???anyone been through this with a non autistic child???

DO NOT CLICK IN THE YELLOW BOX?

Why Not?

My son was DX. at 8y/o with PDD autism moderate form. His only behavior problems was in school after they startedPhysicallying him physically in third grade. His grades dropped to first grade level. For three months school never told me what they were doing to him. He'd come home in pain and couldn't tell me. Because of the type of autism he has. Which affects his communication skills. School only complained about his behavior getting worst. They didn't know why. They had NO programs for his autism. He has many medical issues and doctors orders not to restrain. And they ignore them and con't to restrain him. I filed due process. It got as far as mediation, school said everone agreeded to new plans. I never signed anything and wanted it to go further to due process. My son lawyer said it was premature to do so. And that I could not sue the school district. They are untouchible. My son has indured Physical. mental abuse in the hands of the school. No educational programs for him. We just moved out of state to get him a education , to a state that has autistic programs. all at my expense. In these economic times that was not easy. You see I am 54 and my son is my grandson who I adopted at birth and deserves an education. He is bright ,funny, and intellegent. School should be fun and a learning process not a jail. In the end of that school he was in a 5X5 cube 6 hrs a day isolation because they didn't know what to do. no peers no nothing. would you allow this to happen to your child. I am a veteran, 31 yrs as a nurse and I ride a motorcycle. no one has the right to do this to any child. of course they is much more to this story. One could even say, his side, her side , and the truth. But we are the one's living it.

My little brother is autistic. I want to spread autism awareness with a necklace. If anyone knows where I can find an autism necklace that would be real nice. Thanks!

I just saw a video of a supposedly autistic boy who saved his teacher's life by doing the heimlich maneuver. He was talkative and is a boy scout. My best friend when I was growing up had a sister with autism, and she could barely communicate. She would have frequent tantrums, had to go to a special school, and only talked sporadically through sign language. Now it seems like any kid with any kind of odd behavior or who doesn't quite fit in gets diagnosed with autism. This kid twitched a little but otherwise was fine. I was shy when I was a kid and I still stammer sometimes. Does that make me autistic? What about all the other socially awkward kids I hung out with?

hello,
i watch a friends 2 year old,i feel he might be autistic(high functioning),i spend alot of time with him, i really don't know how to start this off at all, i tried contacting local dr. offices but they wouldn't tell me anything, infact no one would even talk to me, which i understand, but feel hurt about it, the little boys mom and dad are going through rough times and the child now lives with the grandparents and they are great with him,i watch him during the weekdays..
so here are my concerns...he has a real high level of seperation anxity and seems to be very overwhelmed in groups, he also *i feel* have textured issues with food..i.e. he only eats a few things but picks tiny tiny peices off of whatever it is he is eating, its like he is tasteing it,and he must eat the same thing like everyday,bc it will not eat anything else( my doc told me that shouldn't be a concern ,its just a phase for children to only want to eat the same thing),he flapps his hands or opens and closes then fast or bolth when his emotions are running high, eaither happy are mad, also when he runs ,he really only socials with one other child his age that i have seen,he has been having night terrors and i often find him sleeping in a half way standing postion, colored lights seem to scare him,he is very smart,he can hum along to all the backyardagains and has seem to memorize alot of the shows parts, its really amazing, when he was just a little over a year, he could say a three word phrase and alot of other words and now its as if if he says only three and when he does say a word he says a few times over,he can bring me the remote when he wants to watch something else, but won't bring my his cup when he his thirsty,in fact he won't even give me a sign when he is thirsty,i asked his grandmother about this, she says she thinks he doesn't understand when he is thirty, i told her it just didn't make sense to me,but that is all i have broughten up to her, i have not brought up that i feel there are red flags, for the fear for her reaction to me, i wanted to get some insight before i took the step to talk to her about,i don't want to alarm her , if its not needed, maybe i'm being overly protective....o ya at one point the mother had her thoughts about him being autism, he was just over a year old when that happend i forgot if she had taken him to the docs or not, i just remeber her telling me and me telling her that if he was it would be hard for the doc see it ......my sisters daughter found out she has autism when she was 4 ,she is now 11 /1/2, i did talk to my sister ,she did some reasearch and found this e-mail address for me thinkin it could be some help to me, my sister lives outta state, so she can only do so much to help me understand whats going on..one more thing , the little boys has been like this since before his parents hit the rough patch.....i really feel at a loss on how to approche things with grandma about my concers or just if i really am over reacting, i really love this little boy , his mom and i have been friends since grade school she is like my sisiter...i just need some guidance.it would really help me out a ton just knowing if this is something to bring up tp grandma or not...also...he makes eye contact and does however respond to him name..thank you guys

hi all,
i am a worried mom to a 22 month old. my son hasn't said a word till now. not even mum dad... we have had him under evaluation for last 4 months. his hearing was tested and found to be normal. the doctor on our first visit had said he is mildly autistic.(because of his various autistic characteristics like not talking..
not pointing..
not looking at things i point at..
constantly touching my eye for comfort,
very little eye contact..
not responding to his name many times...
high threshold to pain
no much understanding of language
constantly turning the wheels on all the cars
living almost in his own world
now two months later..
he has still no words
still doestn point
rarely looks at things i point to
some language recognition but still not enough
still plays with wheels
still touches my eye like and obsession
but
he has cme ut of his shell and loves playing with me and his sister
is very affectionate
if gets hurts wants to be comforted by me
still plays with wheels but not confined to that..loves playing with the entire car..zooms it around the house
if he wants something will take me to it by pulling me and will put my hand on it instead of his own.
loves to hear nursery rhymes and recognizes many rhymes and copies their action.
eye contact is totally normal now..except with strangers where he seems slightly shy..but becomes friendly soon.
responds to name more..but not always
so basically he is showing mixed signs..which is why even his development ped is on the fence abt the diagnosis. in such a situation , like any mohter, i have gone thro a series of emotions from shock to denial to heartbroken to frustrated and helpless. now i am finally trying to accept the fact that this could be the reality of my life. i am not a judgemental person and in no way to i love my son any less because of this..but like i said initially ..im a worried mom. im not worries abt today or tomorrow or many years to come.. when i am there to tk care of him in any way he needs but of the future when a day might come if im not there to tk care of him.
i ask all of u.. if any are in my situation ... what do u think abt my son's condition. does he seem autistic. if so then how severe. and also would like to know in future will he ever be (no..not normal... i never use that term for children) but self sufficient.. independent .. will he be able to take care of himself.. live life without help of others. i hope u understand what i am asdking. would really appreciate any genuine advice or opinion. pls dont be rude or harsh as its hurtful and why hurt someone who is already hurting!

I am very concerned about 3 yr old little boy, i think he may have autism. He does alot of hand flapping when exited or upset, also he is unable to speak, hes very emotional, also sometimes lies on his front and rocks back and forth, seems to gaze and stare alot and seems to be in his own world also he has just started the past couple of days to headbang but im unsure of if its for attention or is something to do with him might having autism. I know im rolling off a list of things here but im just gonna tell you everything, also likes a set routine and get upset with change, hes made up a sign for when he doesnt want something, and ive had a few comments off family member who think he may have, I have made a appiontment to see a doctor but I would realli like some advice on whether anyone else thinks he may have it? (very worried mummy)

I've seen a lot of scientific studies that show no link between the MMR vaccine and autism, but I've seen a ton of anecdotes about children who got the vaccine, and within hours, showed distinct signs of being autistic. So my question is :
Could the MMR vaccine be one of several triggers: something that makes a kid genetically predisposed to autism develop it (like turning on a light switch)? So those particular kids who get the MMR vaccine would develop autism anyways, but perhaps a few months later without the vaccine? Any thoughts from autism experts or doctors?

I think I have Autism/Asperger's Syndrome. Although I don't want to go to a doctor to find out but I know I have to. I dont want to talk to my parents or tell them about it though. I tell my friends things that I wont even tell my parents.
How can I find out if I have this condition without going through to see a doctor/telling parents etc..
My friend has already told me, she thinks I have slight autism because of the symptoms I show. Im never at home for my parents to know. Im always staying over at my friends house and thats probably why they know more.
-I can't talk to people that I dont know, I get scared and dont understand.
-Excessive fears.
-Eating Disturbances.
-Have no information while I speak
-Sometimes I dont respond to my name, Iv been told.
-Dont play like other kids my age
-Prefer being alone
-Obsessed with one particular object or topic
-Have poor judgement
-Run into a busy street without any sign of fear
-Difficult in learning at school. Difficulty concentrating.
Someone please help and tell me. thanks.

My son has not been diagnosed with autism, but I have a feeling something is up. He went to the doctor recently and the doctor said he was ok, but of course doctors don't know everything, and things can be overlooked easily. What signs did your child have that made you think your child could possibly have autism. Sharing your experience is appreciated.

Looking for info on Natural ways to help Autism and an easy way to do it (financially) I found a good bit of info on a web site www.health-reports.com/autism but it is very expensive and totally out of my reach. Looking for a cost effective Natural way?

From what I've been reading, it looks like testing wouldn't be conclusive until my child is at least 2-3 years old. She's only one-year at this point but there are little things she does that make me wonder. I don't know if I'm just being worrisome or there's good reason to suspect.
I'm just wondering if there were signs very early on, like in their first year, that you had a "feeling" that something was special about your child. I appreciate you answering. Thank you.

Hey well, I am 13 and my brother is almost 5. So, My mom was a smoker before she had me. I estimate about 2 years before she had me she quit. She had a miscarriage, then me (healthy). She had two more miscarriages in 8 years, then at last she had her last (my brother). While growing up my brother had delayed in speech and walking and playing more maturally, and a lot of tantrums. He had a OT and a PT come to our house and you know, play with him and get him better at things like speech and puzzles, and knowing his colors and objects. But before he knew speech, he knew sign langauge. His first word was cookie or yay (not sure if that is a word). Which I find impressive. In comparison in my first word was "No." Around 3 he was diagnosed with autism. Not servere, but a little less than mild. He doesnt look different in devolopment but he has the autistiv signs as shaking his hands or playing with toys at the kitchen table only (eye level) He now goes to a special pre-school. Also, he doesnt like me when im around him, I dont know why. Ok but the point here is, My mom told me the shot newborns just get in the hosipital at birth can cuase mental issues. She told me to never give my future kids the shot. Doctors never tell us anything.
So would the cause be the shot, or my mothers past-time smoking? Or did the autism come from an unknown reason?

Hi, I'm doing a research paper and presentation on autism. I would seriously like to put a 110% on this, so I had an idea to interview someone. Since I don't know anyone personally who's autistic, I would like to ask some questions to someone who's autistic or a parent who have an autistic child. To answer my questions more privately, my email address is nessa048@hotmail.com
For the person who have autism:
*How old are you?
*When did you get diagnosed with autism?
*How severe is your autism?
*Was it hard at school and was you comfortable at the school you went to?
*What have your family did to help you through the yrs?
*Is it difficult to do daily activities?
Any stories or comments you would like to share?
For the parents:
*How did knowing that your child have autism affected your life?
*Did you look at your child a different way or thought he/she need special needs?
*How old is you autistic child?
*When did your child get diagnosed with autism?

My husband just completed child custody mediation because his ex-wife is brainwashing his two boys Eric 7 (autism spectrum disorder) and Kyle age 3. Basically, the mediator went off of who was the better story teller. The mediation recommendations are ridiculous, won't even go there. Now HER attorney is threatening us that if we do not sign the mediation recommendations that she will take us to court and have us pay his Ex's legal fees. Can she do that?

According to the CDC autism occurs in as many as 1 in every 150 births. This is an increase from 1 in 2,500 births in 1995. The increase is exponential at 10 to 17% per year. At one time a preservative in children’s vaccines was blamed but the cases kept increasing after AMATEUR MEDICAL EXPERTS WITH LUCRATIVE BOOK DEALS had the offending preservative removed. This could be mankind’s worse nightmare.
Global warming also has AMATEUR WEATHER EXPERTS, SOME WITH BOOK AND MOVIE DEALS, willing to rid society of anything and at any price to correct a problem that is rather trivial compared to what is happening to human babies. We need to prioritize. Couldn’t Al Gore solve the autism epidemic as quickly as he solved the global warming problem? Of course, you could all solve this tomorrow. A lack of practical knowledge is what made you such very fine weather predictors that you'll actually sign your name critizing real meteorologists who have doctored in the science because they are dummies.

Is this autism behavior? She is loving, does make eye contact and can count to 20, recognizes all colors and shapes, letters of the alphabet and can recognize about 10-20 words in print. She does however have problems answering questions (yes or no) She seems really obsessed with lines from 2 particular videos. She is my first child so I don't know if this can be normal or sign of something else.

I have a three year old son that has not potty trained yet and tends to have tantrums that I believe are due to a language barrier since he doesn't talk much yet. I believe he has delayed speech and nothing more but his daycare provider claims he's autistic, based on her son's symptoms. Now if my son has autism, that's something I can deal with but he doesn't show signs like repetitive behaviors or lack of cuddling, etc. My OTHER son also had delayed speech and everyone told me he was autistic. Now he's gotten older he's one of the most empathetic children a mother could ask for. I'd like to learn more from parents here and medical professionals regarding this to tell me if it sounds like autism to you, or perhaps just speech delay.

Hi, i know autism is usually diagnosed in early childhood, but is it possible to be missed and not found till later on, like late teens, 20's ish?
If so, could you please list some of the signs please (in teens not children)?
2 of my teachers have asked if i have a learning problem (i don't think i do though), but if i did, autism would probably be the most likely.
Two of my cousins have autism too (both under 5) and my mum said she can't remember the first few years of my life (very nice - maybe coz she + my dad broke up when i was 1 - 2 ish?) and can't remember my 1st word and things like that. She said she hadn't even heard of autism till my cousin (dad's side) was diagnosed.
Sorry if that didn't make much sense, i'm not very good with words.

Hi,
I have a question about Autism.
Okay, I have a brother who became autism since
he was 3 years old due to a very high fever which affect a part of his brain, ( the speech part) where it sends signs from the brain to our mouths to speech.
Also, my fiance has a brother who has autism as well. I am not sure if he was born with it or not.
However, my finace's mother was telling me and my finace that if me and my fiance ever decide on having kids who really need to becareful and take into consideration that there maybe a chance that our kids may become autism.
I do not know if this is true or not.
Does anyone know it is true or if it can happen?
Any help would be most appreciate along with any websites that has the information would be very beneficial and helpful as well.
Thanks once again!

and what are the signs??

My little brother has autism.. so i'd like to do a science project on him with my friend. It has to be first place or second place material! please help!

so i NEVER really thought about my daughter having autism because she is 7 mths old and she is actually developing very well like she was sitting up all by herself at 3 and a half mths and she walks perfictly in a walker and has been since she was 4 and a half mths she babbles more then allot of other babies her age. but for a couple of days she has been acting a little diff., like she is getting harder to get to sleep, she starts to move her head around like a bobble head (the only way i can explain it is like when a [not trying to offend just the only way i can explain!!!] autistic child gets happy and moves there head around and i hate to watch her do it cuz i just cant help but to think there is something wrong and she chews on her wrist and my friends brother is got a bad case of autism and he moves his head like she is doing(but he is ALLOT worse!!) and he had to have gause on his hand from chewing his wrist so thats why i think she has autism and i am a big worry wort!!! and i dont really know what signs to look for and im really worried please help!!!

I volunteer at a Hippotherapy ranch, and for those who don't know what that is, its a Program for people with Special needs, they ride and take care of horses as therapy.
Because most of my students are younger than 6, and have Autism , they don't speak much at all, and some use sign launguage.
I want to know how to get them to be more calm and social around me, because I can be very shy some days.
I really want to get more involved inmy work.
Thanks!

He cries a lot!!! Sometimes we don't even know why. We really can't go anywhere with him cause I'm afraid he'll hit someone a total stranger~ again. He doesnt eat anything but toast, waffles, fruit and milk. When he gets mad he bangs his head, throws himself on the floor back and forth. He is getting help but I can't really say it's helping. I'm loseing my mind slowly but surely. Does anyone have any pointers on the no eating and banging his head? He doesnt talk either. They are teaching him sign language.

this autism spectrum is so broad...i wonder how does a doctor diagnose a 12 year old? i have read signs...and i have spoken to those who are autistic of many spectrums....they all have opinions...my daughter was born not wanting to be held...for a long time, longer that most babies not smiling and required a large amount of stimulation in order to show excitment...later alot of spinning in circles...attitude problems all the way until now...social problems relating to other children...has friends but feels alone....still has temper problems...snuck into daddy bed until age 10...has a "crap in pants" problem and refuses to take the prescription to get help which seems strange at her age you think it would be embarassing..only learned to keep her hair combed last year...has some problems with vocabulary and speech at school..yet won 3rd place in 5th grade in speech tournament...!! seems to have memory problems...EVERY YEAR people say she is going through a stage...more i don't haveroom

My sister has mild autism. ( or so I think )
Let me share my story, or OUR story.
Since I was a kid, my parents have always told us ( me and my other sister ) that my sister, the eldest, was not "the same" as us. They would often tell us that it's like her brain is six years younger, or something like that. We understood that she was a "special child" but somehow I always wondered what her condition was since she could comprehend, but not as good as normal kids can.
Each year she grew more mature and her condition would improve. She would most of the time talk as if she's talking to others while reading her magazines and would recall the things she remembered, like what people said, etc. When we were little, she also had a short attention span but she wasn't giddy nor seemed like a child with ADHD.
It was just last year, 2006, that I realized my sister had mild-autism. I checked the site and realized that she had some signs and characteristics of an autistic person.

The only thing I can think of is that Autism people act different and don't learn to talk at all and people with Speech delay eventually begin to talk with time.
Please educate me. There is a rumor (that can be true) in my family that someone has Autism. He is three years old and I think shows all signs of it, but I may be wrong as I am not a doctor. Mother is claiming that he does not have Autism and it is speech delay because he was premature, she hides his birth certificate from everyone and we have pictures from when he was born and supposedly just came out of the NICU after a few months...but still had his umbilical cord...?
We are not bugging her about it, because we feel bad. She says his speech therapist said he doesn't have it, BUT how would she know if the mother doesn't tell her the signs that her son shows??

or has a child with autism?
Does it make you sad?
Does it make you thankful your child doesnt have it ?
Do you treat them any different ?
Would you know the signs ?
April is austism awareness month, be aware.

My finace and I have been having some concerns that there is something wrong with our 18 month old. He acts very pecular, like always clapping/smaking his hands. He does some off the wall things, and he seems to be behind in some aspects of life. I have looked up information on autism and it's always very confusing. He has some signs that he may be autistic- but then when it comes to other signs- such as recognition when someone walks into the room- he has no problem with. I can't really explain the way he acts- it's just so very odd. The way he walks sometimes, and he'll walk and then through himself down for no reason, only to get back up again, and then do it all over again. He still acts very much as an infant in some aspects- and then in others aspects he's very smart. I know, I need to take him into seeing the pedi- I guess I'm scared and a little in denial. I know that it's not my fault and there's nothing that I could do to prevent it. I had a very high stress pregnancy.

I am wondering if I have some form of hypochondria...
I always try to find something that is wrong with me mentally...
When ever someone brings up the subject of Autism or some other serious type of a social disorder... mainly when referring to someone they know who has it... I immediately think of all the times I have had "awkward" social interaction with people and ASSUME I am autistic or have AS or something. I researched Autism and AS - and a great majority of the warning signs - I don't share/have. I even took a online Autism test and scored a 7 ( a normal person without autism scores around 12 and a person with autism scores 25+). So thats lower than the average person. But I still need constant reassurance from people to make sure that I am not autistic.
I sometimes get this hollow feeling in the top-left portion of my head, and when I feel it, I cant think or socialize or anything (maybe just because I think too much about the feeling) and I think I am retarded.

i have a nephew who is nearly 2 his speach isnt verygood a the health visitor has noticed autism runs in the family could this be a sign.

Does any body know how long it take for a child to be tested for autism. I Been waiting for five month's now.My son is three year old. I call Regional Center all the time but they don't call back and my son Dr talk to them to all they say is to be patint. What should I do.

I'm writing to ask a few questions of stimming.
I have a nephew who is over 3 and doesn't really talk or answer to his name. I've become concerned and all but my sister is always defensive and feels no matter how nice you say anything , you're attacking her, so i can't dare tell her to get him checked. One thing he does which i wanted to know , is he takes blocks and he rubs them against his face, from his mouth towards his ears and follows with his eyes. He does this all the time with new & old objects, and repeatedly. Is this stimming?
I've seen many vids on autism on youtube and i see alot of the signs as things he does. I know she too has done research and all even postponed getting the mmr shot and getting it split into 3. Mind you, he never had this shot, until recent, but these behaviors have been for the past 2 years or more. She also can't get him to eat anything other than babyfood custards. He just recently allowed oatmeal tn but nothing else. He spits out anything else.

It has been speculated that both Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton were mildly autistic.http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/298864…
Apparently, mild autism is often linked to enhanced abilities in such things as mathematics, computer science, and physics. It has also been observed that families that have many members that were physicists or mathematicians have a higher risk of having children born into them with autism.
In my personal experience, I noticed that the people that were at the top of the class in the physics and math classes I took in college often showed signs of being mildly autistic, (social ineptitude, etc).
Recently, experts have found a major increase in autism in the population. Those findings have been disputed, but the most recent studies indicate that it true.http://www.webmd.com/brain/Autism/news/2…

My 5 1/2 week old son doesnt really look at me all that much. When I try to make a sound or talk to him to get him to turn his head....he doesnt. I'm afraid of autism and I know in older children this is one of the signs. Am I worried for nothing? Is he just to young to follow sight and sound yet? Many thanks from a worried mom!

I always hear about autistic kids but never autistic adults. Why? Do kids who have autism grow out of it when they grow up or do they have the same signs?

Our son is very upset tonight- and my husband is at work so I cannot talk with him. Need help. Our son is in the 5th grade, with autism, new school, new district. He has never gotten a bad grade- all A's, but he tests poorly. They are prepping the kids for the local exams at the end of the year and have offered a tutoring day twice a week until 5:00 pm. Our first inclination was to sign our son up. He is furious. His dad leaves for work at 5:00 pm and he won't be home until after 5:00 on those days and not see his dad- 2 days a week until April and not in December. He is in tears and will not calm so that I can talk with him and come to an agreement. I will wait until he settles down to approach as it is not set in stone. He needs a lot of prep work to get the scores he is capable of getting. His teachers think this is a good idea. I am a teacher and concurr. Given what I have told you, would you send your child to tutoring or allow him to stay home?

My son is 16 months old and only says Mama and Dada...when he wants to. He has absolutely no signs of autism. He makes wonderful and completely normal eye contact and gestures like a pro. He has no problem getting his point across without words; for example, today, I gave him a Gerber fruit strip and 5 minutes later, he had dug the wrapper out of the trash can and brought it to me and then gestured at the pantry for another one. Like I said, he gets his point across, but I am starting to worry a little. He brings me books and listens to the stories and I go over words with him all the time everyday. Is there anything else I could be doing? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks so much!

my son has been showing some signs that a few people are telling me are autism, he gets mad and bangs his head on the wall or floor, he is 3 and doesn't have a very good speech, he overall won't concentrate on anything, he is into everything and i have tried to disapline him but he won't stop. I can see he is hyper but i'm not sure if its autism or just hyperactivity

I want to buy a book on Austism with information like what is autism exactly, what to expect, what are the treatments available and parenting tips for parents. And also one that is uplifting.

Hi,
I'm the neighborhood not the parents.
I know of a set of Boy/girl twins who are typically developing toddlers, they'll be 2 this summer.
When the children get excited about something I see them flapping their hands for a few mintunes.
Is this normal of 2 year old toddlers or is this a cause for corcern for autism?
If this is a sign of autism what are the signs of autism in a toddler?

I worked with a student with autism for a few months in school. He was also deaf. He had an interpreter and other staff who knew quite a bit of sign language. But, I have been told there is a deaf student at an elementary school in my school district without an interpreter. (This child is also mentally handicapped.) Are there any laws, state or federal, that require schools to hire interpreters for deaf or hearing impaired students?

Autism affects a variety of persons. This medical condition starts at birth but most parents will not become aware of the condition until the child is three years or older. What can a parent look for before the child reaches three?

My friend's 2 1/2 yr old son has banged his head against anything that he could come into contact with since he was 5months old. he recently had a doctors appointment and the doc told her that is it normal for a child to do this. We know that this isn't right, and the child now has an appointment with a speciailist. Could this be an early sign of autism?

Okay, so.. This may seem ridiculous, or I don't know.. But, I have this slight feeling (ever so recently I got this feeling) that I have a mild-case of adults autism.. I feel kinda a dumb thinking this, becasue I show no abnormal signs.. I have a lot of the generic autism symptoms though.. Like, I would rather be alone in my room then goto a social event. I would rather program my computer then be with friends. I don't like talking to to many people. Large groups scare me, and I start to hate everything in life when I'm in a large group. Ever since I was young, everyone has suggested to me that I was a genius (which I have no idea why they say that, honestly..). I sit and daze a lot during my day. As a child I was diagnosed with ADHD, Dyslexia, and ambedextris. As I grew up (I'm 18 now), I stopped taking medication for the ADHD because I showed no signs of being hyper. My mind still however wanders.. If the subject I have to pay attention to doesn't interest me at all, Its almost impossible for me to grasp it. I sometimes get into really sad moods, and start to cry for no apparent reason.. But the crying then spawns me to think of how much I hate life in general, and how horrible of a person I am. I'm not really sure whats wrong with me, but I don't want to visit a doctor to get this checked out.
Also, another reason I think it could be autism is because i had taken this assesment online.. and it said a normal autistic person gets about a 32, where as I got a 37... And most people get like a 15 or so..
Anyone have any guesses as to whats wrong? Is it mild-autism? is it something else? *ugh*

please help the thousands of kids who need a LOCAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT (state) autism specific school in their county of the uk by signing my petition to get one autism specific school in every county of the uk.
Even private autism schools are few and far between with no places vacant for years .
its time the uk goverment supplied these autistic kids with properly trained teachers and a safe happy place to learn.

Insurance companies often treat autism as if it was a psychological condition to avoid paying insurance claims. My daughter needed general anesthesia to have a cavity treated by the dentist. The insurance company denied the claim stating: "General Anesthesia is not a treatment for autism". We appealed the claim and lost... :-(
