I am a nanny to a child with Autism and his sister. I have so far signed 2 contracts saying they gaurantee hours and pay and my job description. They recently cut back my hours and will be laying me off earlier then anticipated. My question is can they make me sign another contract if I do not want too? I have talk to the Labor Board and they said unless the contract is looked over by a Lawyer it holds nothing!

My 6 yo son has autism. His new neurologist is sending him for an EEG, MRI, and blood tests next week. I understand he is looking for brain abnormalities, but is there any specific trait he would be looking for that is linked to autism? And what do you think the blood test could be for? I plan to ask when we arrive, but just feeling curious now.

my son is 3 yearsold..he had alot of ears infection when he was younger ,endup having tubes in his ear..the doctor said he had 25-%40 hearing loss before the surgery and his hearing will comeback gradually..we noticed that he is talking little better ..he is in school now but we feel like he is different than the kids his age..he doesn't talk much and doesn't communicate with his frieds ( but not isolated) he plays home with his sister and runs anfter her- tickle her- hugs and kiss her but we feels he has some delays ..the teacher at school told us he may have autism..im so nervous and can't accept the idea ..i read about autism seems like my son have some signs accourding to not being communicating - sharing or the delays..he could say few qords like ( i want juice - where is daddy- where is sister - he give me the remote and ask me to play spongbob for him) ..sometimes i call his name he doesn't respond , i ask him a question he doesnt respond..do u think my son has autism or its just delays cause he was born premature and had hearing problems????/ plz let me know cause im so nervous about it.

My son is 5 years old, he lives alone with me and our dog, he doesn't like to go out mainly because he really dislikes noises and heat. I work at night so if I'm not napping with him or cooking I play with him just like a child his age would. When I go to a store he holds my hand tight and wants to leave quickly, even if it's a toy store. He's obviously not very social and only feels totally comfortable if it's inside my house, or my mom's, and only if a max of 4 people are in there with him.
When he was 3 and a week ago from today I asked my doctor if he could have a mild autism since I know that some signs are not liking change, favoring one person and not being social. But both times the doctor has said he's completely healthy. He's been this way since he was born and this year he has to start school.
Can someone tell me why his behaviour is this way?

I'm looking for other parents who have went through recovering thier child from autism any help is greatly appreciated. Also, if any parents are in phx, arizona that would help a lot with any local sources out here thanks.

I have been patiently waiting for my son to start talking. He can say around 13 words. He uses all of them correctly, but most of them are not real clear. I know that he supposed to be using around 50 words and since he isin't I am worried. He knows what everything is, if I ask him where is this or where is that, he will point right to it or even take me to it if it is in the other room. I am not all that concerned with autism because he has no other signs or symptoms. He is ahead in him motor skills and has always been. Could this be why he is late talking. I have heard that sometime babies deveop one thing before moving on to something else. He is going to the pedictrician next month and if she suggests speech therapy, I will certainly do that. I was wondering if any other moms out there had this problem with their son and if I should be more worried or just go with the flow?

What does it mean when you make a closed fist turned inward towards you and touch/rub/tap ((I'm not sure how to describe it)) your chin?
My 5 y/o has autism and they're teaching him ASL in school.
Unfortunately he's learning these signs faster than I can...

It took 7 doctors to diagnose my step-son with autism. His mother just kept going from doctor to doctor until she heard what she wanted. The other doctors think he has a social disorder, but she claims she knows he is autistic. We think she has munchhousin syndrome (where she diagnosis her kids with disorders so that she can get attention.) Now she is trying to get her other son diagnosed with autism and he acts like a normal 5 year old boy. He is 23 days older than my son and the two act like twins. My husband is in the process of taking her to court and everything but how do we get a new opinion when we know there is a mental problem with the oldest we just know it is not autism. (He doesn't show any signs other than the social disorder that is the same as autistic children)

My essay is about the research dealing with autism and its link to the families who have people who work in the occupations of folk physics(math, engineering) rather than people who work in the fields of folk pyshology(english, literature)

Hi, my 21month old nephew isn't saying any words..at all. He used to say Dada, but now he may say it once in awhile. He points to things that he wants, and kind of grunts at it. I had a play date with him last week, I brought my 18 month old daughter over (who is extremely vocal, says lots of words and is extremely social with everyone) to play with him, but he didn't really want anything to do with her. She kept trying to kiss him, and bring him toys, but all he did was basically ignore her. I'm worried, and I know his mother is too, her doctor has already told her to have him evaluated.
My question is, are there any moms or dads out there who have children with Autism? And if so, what were the signs and at what age did you notice these signs. Thanks everyone.

Extra info. : I am a very logical thinking (non-emotional individual) divorced man and enjoy my profession as a teacher. I can fake empathy better than anyone I know with students and all people. I have a child from a former marriage to a woman I did not love and the child is mildly autistic (ASD). Luckily, she remarried and is raising him because I'm not too good with kids. My father also shows signs of mild asperger's or autism, too. However, I do not have a diagnosed disorder. Alexithymia defines exactly my condition, but it is not a good diagnosis to work with.
I occasionally suffer from lack of concentration and depression for no apparent reason which I cannot identify. I do not have the social ability to attain or maintain a relationship, nor do I ever want one again. I truly emotional hurt everyone I encounter eventually. I guess I write like I think (scattered....sorry).
How would a mental health pro. help me???????????

He is 16 months old and the only words he says is mama and baba but he did have a lot of ear infections and just got tubes a month ago and before tubes he didn't say anything.. I'm not sure if he has hearing loss or if this is a symptom of autism but when you say his name and he is interested in something he wont look at you or pay any attention to you at all.. he is very determined if you take something away that he wants he is DETERMINED to get it and doesn't give up he is very focused on things.. he loves to rub my hand or arm or pinch it and likes to push on my knuckles like when you push on your knuckle and it makes you finger move around.. but only to other people not himself.. he likes anything with buttons.. remotes, computer, toys etc.. he does give eye contact and he is VERY loving.. has very good gross motor skills runs jumps climbs does ring around the rosey's he loves to watch sesame street.. nothing else really is very happy laughs and smiles all the time plays games like pee a boo brings me things like if he wants a drink will bring me his cup or wants the tv on will bring me the remote he claps his hands drinks well from a cup or straw he doesn't wave bye bye or point but will reach for things.. he is kind of a picky eat but I don't believe its the texture of the food just the taste.. he is going for his post op tomorrow on the tubes and I am going to have his hearing tested then.. but to anyone who knows the signs well or has children with autism.. does this sound like a autistic child? Or am I just freaking out? It's making me really sad to think about and giving me a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach all advice appreciated.. thanks

at one point the doctor suggested autism but she is no longer showing those other signs, what I am concerned about is that pretty much all the time she acts like a little adult, she saw I was busy today hanging drywall and changed her 8 mo old brothers diaper and did a fine job, she can get a bowl of cereal and clean up the mess after, work our tv and dvd that I cant even figure out, spends her days reading and doing puzzles and playing similar to the way a grown up would with her brother, I cant get her to play like you know dolls or kitchen or anything she seems to have well outgrown that stuff, she knows her colors, can pick out some words when I ask where they are on the page and I worry that I have done something wrong and she wont have a good childhood, when she was about 14 mo or so I went into preterm labor and she seemed to become totally different, all I could do was read and stuff laying with her so now she continues to only do those things how to get her to be a lil girl???

My family lives in bay area, CA. Our 19 month son has autism and we are in contact with an ABA training agency called "I can too" and they will provide us a home based ABA training program on my son. Before we sign up the contract with them, which will cost a lot, we would like to listen to other parent's opinion on the quality of the service "I can too" had provided to their cases if they used "I can too" as their ABA training provider. If you have experience with the ABA program of "I can too" please let us know your comments and suggestions. Or if you can recommend a better agent please let us know. Thanks.

Will the SCD(Specific Carbohydrate Diet) diet improve my self even if I don't have gut problems(Crohns Disease and other diseases)? Should I go on it, I'm 17 years old?
I was recently diagnosed with asbergurs(a kind of autism), but I have no signs of diaherrea (I don't know how you spell it) or throwing up.

So I'm writing a paper for Early Childhood Education class in high school about PDD/NOS. I'm having trouble finding things about it all I find is things about autism. Things I need are:
Signs/Symptoms
Age when typically diagnosed
Treatments
Prognosis
Special Accommodations in a preschool setting
Incidence
Also any website links will help or anything else!
Thanks.

In a child that doesn't have Autism and does not exhibit signs of Asperger's, what would cause them to claim that certain articles of clothing hurt? The child is also particular about food but more that just being picky. They are bright, have normal coordination and speak well.

My 5 year old is ADHD and on the autism spectrum. The more I read, the more informed I become. I am starting to put pieces together and am ecstatic because I think there is hope. I am wondering if anyone has any input on the Rhogam shot with mercury given during pregnancy (I had that ) and the vaccinations with mercury given to my son. Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

my wife tok off with my 1 yr old son interstate for 4 mths,I immediatley filed for divorce, during a temp hearing I agreed for her to have temp sole custody and for me to have temp full use of our home and for me to get my son for a 20 day visitation period.
During his 20 day visit I brought him with me to a Counseling session, the LPC noticed signs of possible Asperger's in my son, however she noticed he makes good eye contact.
Much of my adult life people mention that I do not make eye contact,I do not fit in in groups,I have no friends, anyway,I have actually prior to my wife leaving me been trying to see if there were some symptoms I had of a certain psychological pattern or something for why I have such Social challenges and I am now convinced that I have Asperger's.
The Licensed Professional Counselor wrote a recomendation that my wife and I under go Psychological Evaluations and that my son be seen by a Pediatrician to look for signs of Asperger's.The Ped definately did find signs of Asperger's and wrote a referral for my son to both a Child Psychologist and a Developmental Pediatrician.
I am concerned if I undergo a Psyche Evaluation that I will be diagnosed with Asperger's and will lose chances of winning Full Custody of my son.I was his primary caregiver for his first 8 mths before my wife absconded with him,the LPC wrote she believes my son shows signs of neglect from being in her care,I have notarized affadavits from 10 neighbors documenting my wifes psychotic mental behavior,my wifes writing online that she hallucinates, has suicidal thoughts, depression, just alot against her,but how would a diagnosis of Asperger's which is in the Autism Family but people like me have above average intelligence but just have issues with Social Skills and clumsiness and minor quirks like Compulsive Disorders would this damage my chances of full custody?

our daughter is 3 1/2... my fiancee and i have decided to have another baby. our daughter has autism and we were wondering what our chances were of having another child who has autism.. i have looked it up and found varying percentages from 12% to 80%.... my fiancee is not our daughter's biological father does that lessen the chances... either way we would love the baby as much as our daughter and it wouldn't make a difference but we were wondering what the chances.

I have a hypothetical question. Say you had a son or grandson that was 2 and a half years old. His vocabulary consisted of mommy, daddy, mummum, poppop, no, and yeah. He has no hearing problems (checked by a Dr. to confirm) however he show literally ever single sign/symptom of a speach delay. He also had more then 3/4 of the signs for some form of autism. Would you have him checked by specialists (speech pathologists) if it were a free service provided by the local public school system. The therapy and work that he would receive would also be completely free. Or would you be to proud to even be slightly open to the idea that something is obviously wrong. Say this child also showed these signs: when involved with one object dosnt show the ability to acknowledge you when speaking to him and then go back to what he was doing (hell either ignore you, or not remember what he was doing), can recognize almost of his family members by pointing but cannot say their names, same with objects?

I am wanting to teach my 2 year old sign language he was diagnosed with Autism last week and he does not speak and I need to communicate with him some how. I need to know of some good sites that will show me the signs and good instructions on how to teach my son this please.

My step son has autism. He hates being out in the sun for long periods of time. His bio-mother signed him up for little league knowing this. My husband is allowing him to do this because of the meds he is on and the problems we deal with from this. Are we wrong? Can anyone tell me answer this?

I was watching the local news about a young boy that an officer found wandering the street in the middle of the night and he had autism and was deaf. I want to know if all law enforcement agencies have a sign language interpreter on staff? I am a sign language interpreter and want to help with my local law enforcement agency. I want to teach all of the officers where I live Sign Language as there are a lot of deaf people who live in my area. I need advice from an officer as to what I should do about this burden I have.

I have a step son who is going to be 6 this year. I've known him since he was 2 years old. Ever since I've known him he has always had separation problems. I know that this is a lot to do with the fact that his Mother was solely responsible for him for the first 2 years of his life, then she suddenly passed away. However I have been considered his Mother since then. I'm all he remembers to be his Mother.
But I've been having problems getting him to feel secure about the most smallest things imaginable. For example, he will still follow his Daddy around the house EVERYWHERE. If I leave out of the room for no more than 2 minutes, he will want to come and see where I am and check on me every 2 minutes. If his Daddy or I am speaking to his older step brother or sister, he will ALWAYS come into the conversation. It's not sometimes, its all the time. And if we go into a room with his brother or sister, he will feel as if he has to be there too.
My husband (his biological Father) doesn't see it as much as a problem, but his son is too old now to be needing to be around us all the time. He constantly wants us to play with him. Of course we interact with him in various ways during the day, but if he isn't playing with one of us, he simply isn't playing. Infact, it would seem he doesn't even know how to play with his toys.
I am pretty sure he has ADHD. We are getting him tested for this very soon. But I am wondering if there is more going on with him. Almost a form of Autism. He never wants to do things children his own age wants to do. Yet he will try his hardest to do teenage/adult things and seem at a loss with 5 year old activities. He breaks his toys soon after they have been bought. And no matter how much I try to teach him (using reward charts, praise etc) to respect his toys, he still gets so frustrated with them not working how he wants them to work, that he'll break them.
Today, he asked me "Can you show me what's inside the back of a toilet?". His intelligence is WAY beyond his age. But he asks things he needn't worry about. I am forever telling him "Let me worry about that kind of thing, you don't have to even be thinking about it". This is what makes me think he has some type of Autism. Another thing is; he has to do certain things routinely. Example: wait by the bath to watch all the water drain out every time he has a bath. Put his socks on almost perfectly, if not he takes them off then starts again. However, unlike Autism, if we tell him to stop it, he will be mad, but he will stop it. Autistic children cannot stop that type of routine.
Has anyone had any similar experience with a child needing to be so close to you all the time? And showing signs of some type of Autism that no other person seems to notice? Or can anyone shed some light on this situation?
My step-son has been described as 'weird' by at least 3 different people now. He does do some strange things. I just don't know what it is.

Okay this is probably a stupid & its’ kind of hard to explain so please bear with me.
I'll start by saying I believe in signs ,
When I was pregnant I was cleaning up at work & found a heart pendant that had the words "its a girl" engraved in it & something inside of me “just knew” it was going to be a girl - I did have a girl (okay 50/50 chance but still),
Also when my husband & I met 5 years ago it was an incredibly rainy summer season & the day we met was one of the only sunny days we had & my fortune cookie that day said "the sun is shining & love is in the air" (we would have never of met if it had rained that day)
5 years later we now have a beautiful baby girl who will be 14 months in a couple of days. She seems to be developing normally & is doing great but I can’t seem to shake this uneasy feeling that everything’s not so great with her. I should also mention that I am a first time mom & I worry ALOT. I was reading an article on autism & learned about a rare (1 in 15000 girls) condition called Rett Syndrome where a female baby appears to be developing normally the first 6-18 months but then due to a mutation in the X chromosome their skills regress - often to the point of not being able to walk, cant talk, cant control hand movements, ect...
This is where the "signs" come in. My husband & I recently purchased a sailboat & we spent the day cleaning it -in the cabin I found a shirt for a Rett Syndrome Strollathon Event. It’s such a rare disorder it just seemed like it had been waiting there for ME to find it. Since finding the shirt I can’t shake the feeling that this is a bad sign (I was worried about autism even before this-so finding the shirt just intensifies my worry)
Also, now I notice every time my daughter sticks her fingers in her mouth or claps her hands for no reason or holds her hands together for more then a few seconds (the "first stages") & some days she seems a lot more clumsy then other days or she doesn’t babble/talk as much (also considered “first stages”)
Am I looking into this to much? Is my mind playing tricks on me b/c im so scared?

My sister has a 15 month old baby girl, and she does not know how to speak any words besides MAMA.
My sister plays with her and all, but doesnt teach her anything. She doesnt read to her, or practice saying words. It fustrates me because when I try and teach my niece, she becomes impatient and wants to walk away. My sister lets her do what she wants, and sits with her all day and watches something computer.
I am worried that my niece may develope social skills later and life, and be different that other children, and sometimes I think she may have autism. She shows some signs, and when I bring it up, my sister becomes stubborn and refuses to listen.
What I am asking is : Will she become a normal child? What things do I tell my sister without upsetting her? And how do I get her to pay attention to her daughter and play with her more?

Two of my grandkids have severe Autism. We are trying to raise sufficient funds to cover the costs of obtaining 2 Autism Service dogs for them. Need ideas which won't cost a fortune to initiate. Their big sister age 12 is sewing fabric tote bags to sell, and we've had a couple of local fundraisers. Any ideas, must be legal and family-friendly. Thanks.

I set up an appointment for the pediatrician for my 19 month old son. I have felt for along time now that something just isn't right. I really feel as a Mother he has autism. He shows all signs. Not responding to his name, not responding to anyone around, is in his own world all day, had a vocabulary of 40 words, and about a month ago completely stopped talking, refuses to be touched or held, tantrums, doesn't interact with anyone, is obsessed with spinning wheels, doesn't know how to play with toys, very minimal eye contact, spinning in circles, doesn't point at things or show any interest, stopped playing games (like peekaboo, etc), acts as if he's deaf, extremely hyper, very distant, recently started toe walking, will only play by himself, wont play with other kids, acts as if nobody is there all day, shows absolutely no response to anything. I know that's what it is, as his mother, I know in my gut.
Can you please give me some advice. Please guide me on what to expect at his appointment. Its with his regular pediatrician, and has never been discussed before. What do I need to know before I get there, what should I expect to happen??
Im really scared about all of this and just know know what to expect of anything. Please share your thoughts, opinions, advice or guidance. I really need it right now. Please.
Thank you

my cousin is 3.5 and i think he has autism.
he has many signs such as delayed speech and poor communication skills, talks in a weird robot-type voice (these are just simple words, not full sentences or anything), he is not potty trained yet, he flaps his hands, lines cars up and looks closely at them and move the cars slowly, at church he plays with a car on the table while there's a huge group of kids he plays alone, he doesn't answer questions, i'm not sure if he knows how.. he can't count, doesn't know colors, shapes, basic things a 3.5 year old should know, also he keeps insisting on drinking from a bottle, way too old for that now, i wonder if he's just slow or it's autism, what do you think?

I have some questions I would like to ask other parents or caregivers of an autistic child or anyone else who has been touched by autism.
1. what do you think are the most important things an autistic child needs to learn?
2. what have been some of the hardest things you've experienced as a parent or caregiver of an autistic child?
3. If you could have any questions answered about autism, what would they be?

at what age did you notice your child wasn't developing "normally"? what signs were there that he/she might be autistic? what things can you attribute to autism that other parents should look out for?

Can someone explain Autism and its causes and symptoms? What is the earliest age it can show signs?

I'm not being deliberately insensitive here; I'm genuinely ignorant and I'd like not to be. I understand that in autism, a young child is not as much oriented towards other people - the usual outward signs of relating to people are less. So, are an autistic person's social needs less than a typical person's needs? Or are there feelings of frustration and sadness about not being able to get normal-level needs met?

My 5 year old son has autism and is in need of more services. Could someone please help me with this? I live in New York State (upstate).

My son is 2 1/2 and he is presenting signs that lead to pdd or autism , he will be evaluated in aug. by a dev. pediatrician , if he is diagnosed with any of these disorders can i still teach him to speak 2 languages? because we all speak english but my first language is spanish and his dad really wants him to learn it....

i looked on the autism sites and he dosnt show ANY of those signs whatsoever. but he'll be sitting against the wall and start hitting the back of his head against the wall over and over. what is going on with him? like is it normal? he dosnt hit it hard and he dosnt cry or anything. just its kinda weird to me.

say no , she also has central nervouse system dysfunction and is being tested for autism so if any one out there has any input would greatly like it

My 2.5 year old son appears to know his Left from Right. He knows which foot is his left foot, which hand is his right hand, and which direction is left and which direction is right. We'll ask him on a walk, which direction he wants to go and he'll say 'left' if he wants to go left and 'right' if he wants to go right. We think this is pretty amazing, is this typical of his age? He does have a Speech Delay and is receiving ST. But, he is very Bright for his age and we have been told he is a little advanced with shapes, colors, numbers, and letters. Do you think this might be a sign of high functioning Autism or Aspergers or are many other 2.5 year olds doing this?

I have a child with autism and I am so proud of him . I am tring to find a desk top theme for autism awareness . I have tried every where and I just can not find one. It's getting very frustraiting.

She goes to daycare for 4 hours a day and when we go to pick her up, she does not look excited to see us. We have seen other babies in the room who are a little older get excited at the sight of their parents though. She likes to play with us, she gives us really cute smiles especially when we smile at her, she giggles when we tickle her or make funny faces. So I am wondering if maybe she forgets us in 4 hours or something?
Also she does not babble a lot even though I constantly talk to her, both baby talk and proper talk. I mean she will babble and coo etc. especially when left to play on her own, but is not very babbly.
Also, she likes to be held a lot on some days like today. The second you put her down, she will start crying. Yesterday however she was all fine and played by herself. Are these day-to-day fluctuations normal?
I am probably over-reacting but are these early signs of (god-forbid) autism?

My son has always kept to himself but has been developing great. Besides talking he is running and doing most motor skills designed for his age. I haven't really been concerned with him not talking and neither was the doctor. However, with our most recent visit the doctor was concerned with my sons lack of interaction with people. He said the speaking was not a major issues since some kids learn to speak at 3 years. But my son just doesn't really pay attention to people. He will acknowledge them, then simply continue with his game. If you try to play with him or interfere in any way he trows a fit. He does sometimes chase you and will be chased and have fun but that's it. How do i interact with my son when he refuses to be interacted with. The doctor says it may be signs of a lite autism but that we will have to do another appointment in 3 months to see how he progresses. My husband and i usually watch him play and wonder if this is the reason he rejects playing with us. How can we get him to interact more? Or anyone have some other opinions or advice?

would I know about it or see some signs at this point? I am speaking of things like Autism, ADHD, hearing problems, asthma, growth disorders, etc.
If your child (or one that you know) has been diagnosed with any of these things~ when did the parents find out about it? Were there warning signs the entire time (obvious ones) or was it subtle?
Thanks !!!

What were the signs and symptoms?
Do any of the behaviors mimic ADHD or other behavior disorders?
In what why is Asperger's Syndrome related to Autism?
Thanks for the help....

how many of you out there got all worried over ur unborn thinking that he/she will come out to be mentally/physically disabled, but only finding a perfectly fine and healthy baby 9 months later?
my OB told me to get a fragile X blood test done today to see if im a carrier or not. now im all over the internet searching up topics on fragile X, autism, and early signs... etc etc..

okay i am a mnother and i know that i will call my son my baby(not a baby)(he is 20months.) In my daycare we have a little boy who will be 3 in dec. We have been trying to get him to cover his mouth when he sneezes and coughs, and we try to teach him to "use his words" He is not very understandable and he doesnt say to many real words. We have showed consern to his mom about these things asking her to help us each him. Her excuse for him every time is "he's just a baby!" I know he can learn to cover his mouth! His mother doesnt make him use his words, she just answers to his whines. If he wants milk, we tell him to say milk, etc. Is it just me or does she really need to help him? I just can't see him in preschool. I'm not saying he isn't smart, he just needs the guildence. sometimes he doesnt understand simple instructions either. He has no other signs to things like autism, so it can't be that. He is very active too.

he has a form of autism called pdd.he can do everything normal as far as physical but he has a problem understanding

I have some pretty big visions for an Autism benefit concert, to help not only raise awareness for this disability but also contribute all proceeds to research. It is my goal to gain massive corporate sponsorship and possibly national awareness of the event. Any idea's on getting the ball rolling on this?

My son is nearly 2, and he's a happy boy, but he suffer's with really bad ear infection's, which he's had for about 6 month's, the doctor says he had a perforated ear drum at one stage,he really suffer's from them, and he's going to see a specialist on june the 1st about his ear's.But we are worried, that he say's only mumma sometimes, and cannot speak, i only hope it's not autism, as some people might say. But i wonder if he's so frustrated with his hearing he's gone in tunnel vision mode and switched off, as his hearing is maybe muffled? He can hear a horn on the bike, and loud noise's, so maybe he's on the mend, but im worried, are these the sign's of autism also? or just a child who can hardly hear?

Was wondering if anyone has a child, niece, nephew, friend, etc... with Autism? What were the first signs you noticed of this disorder, or what differences do you notice in the behavior of the person/people you know with Autism? - am looking to hear more form personal experience than to read information on web pages. Thanks

My ex partner is going to take me to court. Demanding inappropriate access times he sees our children 3 evenings a week alternate fridays until seven o clock other evenings until 5.30. He collects them from school. Then he has them for one overnight stay every other weekend this arrangement was because he works saturday mornings. He also sees them on tuesdays. So the only days he doesn't see them is mondays and when it is my weekend. Now he is requesting overnight access during the week this is not to be on the same day but on a rota basis which i feel is too confusing and will disrupt my 4 year Old routine especially as she has been referred to a school doctor due to her social skills and inability to manage and cope with routine changes. She is showing signs of mild autism. Then he is requesting he brings them back at 7.30 one of the evening s on a rota basis my children are four and 6 they are in bed by half seven week nights. I don't feel he is thinking about the children's well being just reacting out of his own issues. I have never denied access and never would. He never asks for the children during school holidays then he turns around and says i am stopping him seeing the children when he hasn't even asked to have them in the holidays. He is also requesting fri to sun alternate weekends which is fine but my concern is what is he going to do with the children on sat mornings when he is working. I know he has left the children on there own before whilst he has been playing football, he has left them on the side of the pitch also when he makes phone calls he goes to his car and leaves the children in his flat which they get really upset about. He doesn't have suitable accommodation for two children and they sleep on the floor next to a toilet which hurts me but i have put up with it because although the children dont like his flat because its too small they want to see him. I am going to argue that the access arrangements we have now are suitable for the children they are happy with the routine. I fear that the change and lack of stability in the routine will have a big impact on my younger daughters behaviour. It is evident in her behaviour at home and school when she cannot handle things. I think changing things now when she is just starting to settle in school would be unhelpful . My older daughter is happy with the arrangements. He is also requesting alternate xmas when we live close so we usually share xmas day.

Our 14 month old son either rocks his back into his crib or head butts it for what seems likes hours before he goes to sleep or when he wakes up? What is wrong with him or is anything wrong? Why does he do that? Should we be concerned? How can we stop it? Some say it's just his way to release and settle down. He wakes up the whole house! He does not have down syndrome, and we have watched him grow through all of his early stages and he does not have or shown any signs of having autism. He is full of life, smart, copies noises and actions and mimics us, smiles, laughs, tries to talk, does or displays nothing an child with autism or down syndromes displays. So stop with the crude comparisons! Please shed me some light on this topic!

Did anybody see that medical mysteries show a few months back pertaining to a false autism diagnosis of a little girl?
it had something to do with a little girl and her brother and the parents were told it was autism. But then the lady did research dn found that her daughter had the symptoms for some other rare disease that had to do with her neurons and not enough chemical signals. Anyways did anybody catch the name of that
show or the name of the disorder?

My son just turned 13 months a few days ago. He doesn't say any words except his sister's name. He can only stand if holding onto something. But doesn't walk. The doctor said she thinks he may be delayed and referred us to an "Institute for Neurological Disorders". Needless to say, I am sick about this.
I didn't think there was any problem at all - although I know he could be doing more things. But he's also got a really laid back, happy personality.
I've been doing research today, and he does have some "hallmark" signs of early autism. He doesn't have any words and he has never pointed to anything. He'll see something and make noises or try to move toward it, but never points.
He does make eye contact, laughs, babbles etc. I NEVER considered autism until this doc appt and my research today. But is it a possibility????
Has anyone else had a toddler similar to this and what was the outcome? Should I be as worried as I am? I actually am feeling sick over this.
Thank you for your help!

to me she seems on point if not advanced in things.. she is yelling like eveyr 5 month old trying to talk.. giggles plays grabs for toys, she has even started to crawl....
but the thing is... she just bout always has the tongue out..could this be a sign of somthing like autism or somthing... i dont know what to think... Why would a baby have there tongue out this much...
ALso she is teething now too.. almost has 1 tooth fullly threw

My freind Nadia has Autism and it effects our Freindships.. I Am a bit worried tho, cause she said she cuts her self and is trying suicide..! What shall i do?

First of all, I know there's a wide spectrum/ lots of different levels of autism, and that it effects people in all different ways... some have it worse than others...
I think I do have some signs of mild autism, for example, I don't like being in a big group of people. If I am in a big group, I feel intimidated, even though the people are my friends, I'm really quiet and never know what to say, and I don't like making eye contact.
If I'm with just 1 or two people, I'm fine. But I can assure you I'm NOT shy in any way at all.
I find it hard to explain things, and I find it hard to tell people what I am thinking or feeling. I can never seem to find the words, its like a mental block.
I like spending time on my own... I'd rather be on my own all the time but I know I can't be. I find it hard to open up to people and can't really understand how people can get so 'close' to one another.
It affects me in other ways to, but I'm having a mental block right now and can't think how to explain them.
The thing is, I'd like to know for sure if I am autistic or not, but I feel so stupid going to my doctor and saying 'I think I'm autistic' or 'Can I be tested for autism?' Because if he asks me why I think I'm autistic or anything like that, I'll not be able to answer him and he'll think I'm just being silly. I'd probably just break down in tears......
I'm 19 and female by the way.......
What can I do? :(

She is now 10 weeks old and we are concerned about her constant movement. When she is awake, she is always kicking her legs and moving her arms. She sleeps perfectly still.
This is my first child and the first baby I have every been around. Is this normal for a child to do? Is it a sign of reflux or GERD? Could it be the early signs of something worse, like Autism or Retardation?

He's way young (he's a child) but I still suspect that he might have autism. So far, he has developed everything far late from what is considered "normal." I'm not prejudiced when it comes to child growth. I think that all children grow up at different times and develop differently. But this is beginning to concern me.
So far, he's developed his motor skills really late, as well as: potty training (he's still undergoing that...), emotional stability (colicky-ness), "sharing" and interacting with others his own age (he punches, slaps, and hits little children and yells at them), as well as a whole host of other things.
I've been reading up on autism and he's showing all or most of the signs. You can talk and talk to him but he won't listen and he always does quirky things, like running into a room flailing his arms while yelling... and exiting the room in the same fashion. My parents laugh at this, but I'm getting worried. I think he'll suffer later on in life.
Please help. :-(

As I have discovered that I more than likely have Asperger's (still awaiting official diagnosis), I have done a lot of research, and I think my nephew may have it as well. He just turned 5 years old. He is showing a lot of sign of autism in general - clumsiness (this kid can literally just be standing there, and he'll tip over), repetitive behaviors, physical anger outbursts (he hits his head on the floor/wall/anything HARD when he's mad or frustrated), and "tuning out" everyone when he's concentrating on something he likes. But he's not a typical autistic boy; he's smart. He didn't have any delay in language, though he did have a hard time learnng to walk. He has always loved using big words (I taught him "biotechnology" before he was 3 ;)), and he knew all his letters, shapes, and colors very early. He told me the other day that he doesn't like his frisbee to be the shape of a hexagon, and wants it to be a circle again. He then told me that a hexagon has 6 sides, pentagon has 5

I have an 8 month old little girl and she rarely smiles. When strangers talk to her she always stone faces them and I get told all the time what a serious girl she is. At first it didn't worry me because I thought that eventually she would warm to people, but looking back on pictures of my son as a baby, he was smiling way before teeth.
I've heard that it could be sign of autism but it isn't like she never smiles. She will occasionally smile when you walk into the room and she laughs all the time at my son's antics or when she is tickled, but she will not crack for a stranger or if you are trying to take a picture and making funny faces.
Has anyone else had this issue with their children? Did your children turn out to be unsocial? Is this something I should worry about?
Thanks for the input!
